PM Shehbaz, Field Marshal Arrive in Switzerland for Key US–Iran Implementation Talks

LBürgenstock, Switzerland – UNS : Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, accompanied by Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, arrived in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, on Saturday to participate in high-level discussions focused on implementing the recently signed Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the United States and Iran.

According to Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, technical-level talks involving officials from the United States, Iran, Pakistan, and Qatar are scheduled to begin today. The discussions aim to advance commitments outlined in the Islamabad MoU, signed on June 17, 2026, and to establish mechanisms for its effective implementation.

The talks represent the first formal engagement between Washington and Tehran since the signing of the landmark agreement and are being viewed as an important step toward sustaining dialogue and reducing regional tensions.

Pakistan reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the implementation of the understandings reached between the United States and Iran, highlighting its role as a facilitator in promoting diplomacy and peaceful conflict resolution.

On the sidelines of the talks, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is expected to hold separate meetings with delegations from Iran, Qatar, Switzerland, and the United States. The engagements are aimed at reinforcing Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace, dialogue, and long-term stability.

Officials noted that Pakistan’s facilitative role reflects its balanced and constructive diplomatic approach throughout the crisis, including hosting earlier rounds of US–Iran discussions and maintaining sustained diplomatic engagement that ultimately contributed to the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.

US Delegation Reaches Switzerland

Meanwhile, senior US representatives, including Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and former senior adviser Jared Kushner, have arrived in Switzerland ahead of the negotiations. US Vice President J.D. Vance is also expected to participate in the discussions, according to media reports.

Iranian Delegation Arrives for Negotiations

The Iranian delegation has also reached Switzerland and was officially welcomed by Swiss authorities. The delegation is led by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and includes Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, senior security official Ali Bagheri Kani, Central Bank Governor Abdolnaser Hemmati, diplomat Kazem Gharibabadi, and Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei.

Diplomatic observers view the Bürgenstock talks as a significant milestone in the implementation phase of the Islamabad MoU, with expectations that successful negotiations could contribute to greater regional stability and strengthen prospects for sustained US–Iran engagement.
