Pakistani pilgrims report poor accommodation and service conditions during Hajj in Makkah

Makkah -UNS: Several Pakistani pilgrims have raised serious concerns regarding alleged mismanagement and inadequate accommodation arrangements during the ongoing Hajj season in Makkah, prompting widespread discussion across Pakistani media and social networking platforms.

According to multiple complaints, pilgrims were reportedly housed in old and poorly maintained buildings lacking essential hygiene and comfort standards. Affected individuals described broken air-conditioning systems, damaged rooms, poor sewage conditions, and severely unhygienic washrooms that lacked basic sanitation facilities.

Pilgrims further stated that repeated attempts to contact the official Hajj helpline and mission staff were unsuccessful during times of difficulty, resulting in frustration and distress among many visitors.

Some pilgrims also alleged that despite paying additional charges for upgraded services and accommodation packages, they were still provided with substandard facilities inconsistent with the promises made by organizers.

Ministry of Religious Affairs Responds:

In response to media reports and public criticism, the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony announced that it had taken the complaints seriously and issued immediate directives to the Director General of Hajj to investigate the matter and ensure prompt resolution of all grievances.
The ministry further confirmed that monitoring teams had been deployed to inspect hotels, accommodation facilities, and service arrangements for Pakistani pilgrims in Saudi Arabia.
Common Challenges During Peak Hajj Season
Experts note that during large Hajj gatherings, operational challenges may occasionally arise due to the massive influx of pilgrims from around the world. Such issues can include:
Severe overcrowding in accommodation areas.
Increased pressure on transportation and hotel services.
Violations or negligence by private Hajj operators and contractors.
Differences between promised facilities and actual services delivered.
In recent years, both Pakistani and Saudi authorities have strengthened oversight mechanisms to improve pilgrim welfare, penalize non-compliant service providers, and ensure better transparency in Hajj operations.
