ISLAMABAD — World leaders and international organizations have widely praised Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts in helping facilitate a two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran, describing the move as a significant step toward easing tensions in the Middle East.
United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres welcomed the agreement and urged all parties to fully adhere to its terms.
He emphasized the importance of protecting civilians and minimizing casualties, while commending Pakistan and other nations for their constructive diplomatic engagement.
The ceasefire has drawn strong international backing, with countries including Australia, Malaysia, Japan, Egypt, Indonesia, Iraq, and New Zealand expressing support. These nations described the truce as a positive development and called for sustained efforts to de-escalate tensions and pursue long-term peace.
Egypt’s Foreign Ministry termed the ceasefire a crucial opening for renewed negotiations, while Australia and New Zealand voiced optimism about regional stability, stressing that continued diplomatic work is essential.
Indonesia highlighted the need to respect sovereignty and international law, and called for investigations into casualties involving peacekeepers.
Anwar Ibrahim underscored the importance of transforming Iran’s proposed peace framework into a comprehensive agreement that could stabilize not only Iran but also neighboring regions such as Iraq, Lebanon, and Yemen.
Meanwhile, Japanese government spokesperson Minoru Kahara welcomed the ceasefire and emphasized ensuring secure maritime transit through the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil route.
Global leaders also acknowledged the mediation efforts of Pakistan, alongside Türkiye, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia, recognizing their pivotal role in achieving the ceasefire and promoting regional stability.
