Pakistan Engages in Key Diplomatic Talks with US and Iran Ahead of Peace Process

ZURICH/BÜRGENSTOCK- UNS : Pakistan intensified its diplomatic efforts on Sunday by holding high-level discussions with both the United States and Iran as preparations moved forward under the ongoing US-Iran peace framework.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir met with US Vice President JD Vance in Zurich to discuss developments related to the peace initiative. The meeting was also attended by US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and former presidential adviser Jared Kushner, reflecting Washington’s strong involvement in the process.

At the same time, technical-level negotiations between the United States and Iran commenced in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Representatives from the United States, Iran, Pakistan, and Qatar are participating in the talks aimed at advancing the implementation of commitments agreed upon by Washington and Tehran.

Officials described the negotiations as the first formal round of engagement since the signing of the Islamabad MoU on June 17, 2026. Pakistan, which played a facilitating role in the agreement, reiterated its commitment to supporting dialogue and ensuring the successful implementation of the understandings reached between the two countries.

In parallel, senior officials from Pakistan and Iran also launched bilateral discussions focused on strengthening relations and enhancing diplomatic coordination. The Pakistani delegation includes Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Field Marshal Asim Munir, and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.

The Iranian side is represented by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf. The talks are expected to cover regional developments, bilateral cooperation, and efforts to promote stability through continued diplomatic engagement.

The meetings highlight Pakistan’s growing role in facilitating dialogue and supporting regional peace initiatives at a critical stage in the evolving diplomatic process.
