ISLAMABAD-UNS: The Government of Japan and UNICEF have reaffirmed their decades-long partnership to advance children’s rights and improve the wellbeing of millions of children across Pakistan through sustained investments in health, education, nutrition, child protection, and emergency response.
Japan remains one of UNICEF’s longest-standing and largest global partners. In Pakistan, the partnership has played a vital role in strengthening essential services, supporting vulnerable families, responding to humanitarian emergencies, and contributing to the country’s ongoing polio eradication efforts.
Following the devastating 2022 floods, Japan provided US$6.48 million to support UNICEF’s emergency response in some of the worst-affected areas of Sindh and Balochistan. The assistance enabled children and families to access safe drinking water, sanitation and hygiene services, healthcare, and nutrition support, while helping communities recover and build resilience against future disasters.
Speaking on the occasion, Japanese Ambassador to Pakistan ,Akamatsu Shuichi described the Japan–UNICEF partnership as one of the most enduring collaborations in international development.
