TEHRAN -UNS Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Tuesday claimed responsibility for a ballistic missile strike targeting a US military airbase in Jordan, while issuing an unprecedented public message to the Jordanian people urging them to demand the removal of American military forces from their country.
In a statement carried by Iranian media, including Fars News Agency, the IRGC said the strike was conducted during the third phase of the second wave of “Operation Nasr (Victory) 2,” targeting what it described as key US military facilities and troop concentrations at an airbase in Jordan.
According to the statement, the United States has used the same military installations to launch operations against Iran, making them what Tehran described as “legitimate military targets.”
Addressing the Jordanian public directly under the title “To the Beloved People of Jordan,” the IRGC sought to distinguish between the Jordanian state and its military objectives.
> “We harbor no hostility toward your country. On the contrary, we hold deep respect and affection for the noble Jordanian people, who understand the suffering and injustice endured by the Palestinian people better than most.”
The statement urged Jordanians to press for the removal of US military bases from their territory, arguing that such a move would contribute to regional stability and support the Palestinian cause.
> “Your sincere demand for the removal of American military bases from the region would make a significant contribution to saving the Palestinian people and restoring security and stability across the Middle East.”
The IRGC also alleged that the targeted US facilities had been used in previous military operations against Iran, including an attack it claimed resulted in the deaths of children and teachers at a school in Minab. These allegations have not been independently verified.
Earlier in the day, Iran’s Tasnim News Agency reported powerful explosions near Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in eastern Jordan.
Jordan’s Armed Forces, however, announced that its air defense systems had intercepted four missiles launched from Iranian territory before they reached their intended targets. The Jordanian military said it remained on high alert to protect the country’s sovereignty and security.
The latest exchange comes amid rapidly escalating tensions between Iran and the United States, raising concerns that the confrontation could spread further across the Middle East and draw additional regional actors into the conflict.
The competing claims made by Iran and Jordan could not be independently verified, and US authorities had not immediately commented on the IRGC’s statement at the time of publication.
