THE HAGUE- UNS-: The Netherlands is set to host the inaugural World Championship for Akhal-Teke Horses from 4 to 6 September 2026 at the Peelbergen Equestrian Centre, marking a historic milestone in the international promotion of one of the world’s oldest and most treasured horse breeds.
Organised as a major international gathering, the championship will bring together breeders, owners, equestrian experts, judges and admirers of the Akhal-Teke horse from across the world.
The event will provide a unique platform for international cooperation and further promote the distinctive qualities of the breed.
The Akhal-Teke horse, regarded as a national heritage and source of pride for the Turkmen people, has for centuries been renowned for its beauty, elegance, endurance, intelligence and loyalty.
Through sustained efforts by Turkmenistan to preserve and promote the ancient breed, the Akhal-Teke has gained international recognition as one of the world’s finest horse breeds.
The inaugural World Championship is expected to become an important milestone in the global development and promotion of the Akhal-Teke breed, while highlighting its unique characteristics and rich historical significance.
A major highlight of the programme will be performances by the renowned “Galkynyş” National Equestrian Games Group and artists from the State Circus of Turkmenistan.
A distinguished governmental and cultural delegation from Turkmenistan will also travel to the Netherlands to participate in the extensive programme of events.
The three-day championship will feature much more than sporting competitions. The programme at the Peelbergen Equestrian Centre will include equestrian contests, the traditional Akhal-Teke beauty contest, featuring outstanding representatives of the breed, and an international scientific and practical conference focusing on the preservation, breeding and promotion of Akhal-Teke horses.
The event will also feature a large-scale exhibition highlighting Turkmen culture, traditional crafts and heritage, offering international visitors an opportunity to experience the country’s rich cultural traditions.
With participants and visitors expected from numerous countries, the First World Championship for Akhal-Teke Horses is set to strengthen international cooperation and contribute to the preservation, development and global recognition of the priceless heritage of the Akhal-Teke horse.
