Lahore: Senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Dr. Yasmin Rashid has filed an appeal in the Supreme Court challenging the election victory of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif in the recent general elections.
In her petition, Dr. Rashid contested the earlier verdict of the Election Tribunal, stating that her case was dismissed on technical grounds without proper consideration of facts and law. She alleged procedural irregularities, including unauthorized changes to Form-45 and failure to issue mandatory notices to candidates during the compilation of final results.
The tribunal, headed by retired Justice Rana Zahid Mehmood, had earlier issued a detailed judgment on her election petition. Dr. Rashid challenged the results of NA-130, Lahore, where she secured 104,491 votes and stood runner-up to Nawaz Sharif, who obtained 179,312 votes.
She further alleged electoral rigging, unlawful replacement of the returning officer, and manipulation of official results, urging the Supreme Court to review the outcome and ensure transparency in the electoral process.
