CHAIRMAN SENATE  CALLS FOR STRONGER PARLIAMENTARY DIPLOMACY FOR GLOBAL PEACE

Islamabad: Phnom Penh,–UNS:  Chairman Senate of Pakistan, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, led all Speakers and delegates participating in the 2nd Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference (ISC) on a courtesy call on with Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Sen, President of the Senate of the Kingdom of Cambodia.
During the call on, Chairman Gilani conveyed gratitude to the Senate of Cambodia for hosting the Conference and appreciated Samdech Hun Sen’s leadership in promoting inter-parliamentary dialogue.
Speaking to the participants of the ISC, Chairman Gilani called for stronger parliamentary diplomacy, collective action, and greater adherence to international law to address growing global challenges and to promote peace and shared prosperity.
He said the world is facing multiple crises including armed conflicts, geopolitical rivalries, economic uncertainty, terrorism, and the growing impacts of climate change, making dialogue and international cooperation more important than ever.
Chairman Gilani emphasized that the ISC should serve as a meaningful platform for parliaments to engage in dialogue, build consensus, and contribute to the peaceful resolution of conflicts. He urged participating parliaments to play an active role in shaping the future of the forum, noting that the challenges facing humanity do not respect borders and therefore require collective solutions.
Sharing Pakistan’s experience, Chairman Gilani said Pakistan has consistently played a constructive role in promoting peace and resolving conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy. He highlighted Pakistan’s efforts for diplomatic engagement and restraint during recent tensions in the Middle East, and stated that parliamentary and political diplomacy can create additional avenues for dialogue when traditional diplomatic channels face limitations.
He also referred to Pakistan’s cooperation with Saudi Arabia and Türkiye on collective security, describing it as part of broader efforts to promote peace and stability in the region.
The Chairman Senate stressed the need to move “from commitment to action, from dialogue to delivery, and from promises to results.” He called for institutionalizing parliamentary diplomacy, developing mechanisms for a coordinated parliamentary response to emerging crises, and strengthening respect for international law.
Referring to Cambodia’s journey from decades of conflict to peace and development, he said its experience demonstrated the power of reconciliation, dialogue, and national unity.
