Islamabad: Attock Refinery Limited (ARL) has temporarily shut down its main crude processing unit after road closures in the federal capital disrupted both the supply of crude oil and the distribution of refined products.
In an official filing to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) and the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), the company confirmed that its primary crude distillation unit has been taken offline due to logistical constraints.
The roadblocks were imposed as part of heightened security measures ahead of expected talks involving US and Iranian delegations. These restrictions severely limited the movement of oil tankers, cutting off crude supply to the refinery and preventing the delivery of petroleum products.
ARL stated that the suspension of tanker traffic has led to reduced crude inflows and a buildup of fuel inventories, including Motor Spirit (petrol) and High-Speed Diesel.
Consequently, the refinery shut down its main unit, which has a processing capacity of 32,400 barrels per day, until normal transportation resumes.
