NEW DELHI -UNS: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Pakistan’s ongoing diplomatic efforts to ease regional tensions have not failed, though he acknowledged the initiative is facing significant challenges.
Speaking to reporters during his visit to New Delhi for the BRICS foreign ministers’ meeting, Araghchi said Iran remains committed to preserving the current ceasefire and giving diplomacy an opportunity to succeed.
He noted that external powers were attempting to undermine negotiations, but stressed that Pakistan’s reconciliation mission was still active.
“Pakistan’s mission has not failed yet,” Araghchi said.
Iran Criticizes Mixed Signals from Washington
The Iranian foreign minister also accused the United States of sending contradictory messages that were complicating diplomatic engagement.
According to Araghchi, Tehran continues to distrust Washington but remains open to negotiations if the U.S. demonstrates seriousness and fairness in its approach.
He said the unclear American position has made it difficult for Iran to fully understand Washington’s intentions during ongoing regional discussions.
Strait of Hormuz Security Measures
Araghchi stated that the strategically important Strait of Hormuz would remain open to international shipping, except for countries viewed by Iran as hostile.
He added that vessels transiting the waterway would be required to coordinate with the Iranian Navy under updated security arrangements.
The Iranian minister further announced that Iran and Oman would jointly oversee security operations in the Strait of Hormuz through a coordinated management system.
Comments on India-Iran Relations
Addressing regional diplomacy, Araghchi said India maintains relations with multiple global partners and should determine the future direction of its relationship with Iran based on its own strategic interests.
His remarks come amid heightened geopolitical uncertainty across the Middle East and South Asia, where regional powers continue balancing diplomacy, security concerns, and economic interests.
