ISLAMABAD: Aleema Khanum, sister of incarcerated PTI founder Imran Khan, on Wednesday strongly criticised the senior leadership of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and the Islamabad High Court over what she termed secrecy surrounding her brother’s medical treatment and delays in fixing his cases for hearing.
Her remarks came a day after the former prime minister was shifted to hospital for follow-up treatment related to an eye condition that emerged in late January. Speaking to reporters outside the court premises, Aleema said her brother’s health was the family’s top priority and maintained that no medical decision should be taken without their consent.
Referring to a statement by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on February 17, she questioned why neither the government nor party leadership had clarified the nature of the treatment. She said conflicting reports had increased the family’s concerns.
Aleema said the family had proposed a panel of doctors, including Dr Asim, Dr Uzma Khan and Dr Barki, and requested that treatment be carried out at Shifa International Hospital, but their recommendations were rejected or ignored. She claimed the family later learnt that treatment had been conducted at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences without their knowledge.
She also criticised senior PTI lawyers and leaders, naming Hamid Khan, Ali Zafar, Latif Khosa and Barrister Gohar, for not actively pursuing cases pending against Imran Khan, and said the family would now raise its concerns publicly rather than through private channels.
