ISLAMABAAD -UNS: Road safety is among the leading causes of deaths in the world, claiming millions of lives each year on roadways. This alarming reality necessitates proactive actions and a collective commitment to implement effective road safety measures such as educating stakeholders, adopting best practices, and enforcing strict regulations.
National Transport Research Center (NTRC), Ministry of Communications, an R&D organization is fully committed to play its role as a lead agency in the field of road safety with limited financial and manpower resources. In this connection, NTRC has successfully organized a “Two Days Training Course on Road Safety” on 24th and 25th July, 2023 in collaboration of M/s Atlas Honda Pvt Ltd. The purpose of the training course was to educate the individuals from public and private sectors, including academia. It is pertinent to mention that the course modules and contents were
designed and presented by Mr. Hameed Akhter, Chief NTRC who has more than 30 years professional experience in the field of road transportation.
The training course served as a platform to educate participants on the fundamentals of road safety, analyze national and global trends in fatalities, and develop understandings on strategies and policies to foster a safer road environment. The training course witnessed active
participation from diverse stakeholders, reflecting a shared commitment towards adopting a road safety culture in Pakistan.
Other renowned experts in the field of Road Safety Mr. Asif Khwaja (a senior citizen), Mr. Mobeen Anwar (Chief Instructor on Road Safety from M/s Atlas Honda) and Ms. Nabeela Yasmin (Sr. Patrolling Officer from National Highways & Motorway Police) also shared their valuable insights and thoughts on various aspects of road safety. Their expertise encompassed a wide range of topics, from engineering, safer road systems to
promoting responsible road user behavior.
Through an interactive session, participants were engaged in lively discussions, enriching their understanding of road safety best practices and global initiatives like Vision Zero, sustainable safety and safer road system. In addition, the acquired knowledge of participants was evaluated through online quiz.
While providing a feedback, one the participant remarked that “The course has been an eye-opener for us, providing valuable knowledge and data on road safety trends and measures, we now feel more empowered to contribute to creating a safer road environment in our respective fields.”
Chief NTRC expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the participants’ active involvement and commitment to road safety.
At the end, successful participants were awarded course completion certificates in recognition of their dedication, and active participation.
