Iran Halts Attacks on Israel, Warns of Stronger Response if Lebanon Strikes Continue

Tehran -UNS: Iran announced on Monday that it has halted its latest wave of military attacks against Israel, while warning that any further Israeli strikes on Lebanon could trigger a more severe response.

According to Iran’s military leadership, the operations launched in response to Israeli actions near Beirut have concluded for now.

However, officials cautioned that Tehran remains prepared to resume military action if what it described as Israeli “aggressions” continue, particularly in southern Lebanon.

The escalation marked the first direct exchange of attacks between Iran and Israel since April. Tensions rose after Iran fired missiles toward Israel late Sunday, describing the move as retaliation for Israeli strikes on the outskirts of Beirut.

In response, Israel carried out attacks on targets inside Iran, including a petrochemical facility that it claimed was linked to ballistic missile production.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it retaliated by targeting a similar Israeli facility in the city of Haifa.

Amid the growing tensions, US President Donald Trump called on both sides to immediately halt hostilities and pursue a ceasefire.

He said efforts were underway to secure a peace agreement and expressed hope that negotiations would not be derailed.

The recent exchange of attacks pushed global oil prices up by around four percent and raised concerns about the future of US-led diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the conflict.

Israeli officials indicated that the country remains prepared for further military action if necessary, while Iranian sources stated that Tehran is ready for a prolonged confrontation and could also respond to threats against its interests in the region.

Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said discussions with Washington were continuing in an atmosphere of “extreme suspicion.”

He accused Israel of attempting to undermine diplomatic efforts and held the United States responsible for actions that could threaten regional peace and stability.

The situation remains tense despite Iran’s announcement, with both sides maintaining military readiness while international efforts continue to prevent a wider regional conflict.
