NEW YORK -UNS: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif met His Highness Prince Rahim Aga Khan V in New York on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The prime minister warmly welcomed Prince Rahim Aga Khan V and fondly recalled their meeting earlier this year during the Aga Khan’s visit to Pakistan.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif appreciated Prince Rahim Aga Khan’s commitment to maintaining and strengthening the longstanding friendly and positive relations with Pakistan.
He reaffirmed Pakistan’s resolve to continue working closely with him in pursuit of the shared objectives of peace, stability and development.
The prime minister also appreciated the longstanding contributions of the Ismaili community to Pakistan’s socio-economic development and highlighted its valued tradition of community service and civic engagement.
He also commended the contributions of institutions associated with the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) in promoting financial inclusion, tourism, preservation of cultural heritage and economic empowerment through community participation.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the importance of making full use of the opportunities for further cooperation in these areas to promote sustainable and inclusive development in Pakistan.
Prince Rahim Aga Khan expressed his gratitude for the prime minister’s warm sentiments and appreciated his efforts toward promoting regional peace and stability at a time when conflict continues to affect the region.
He reaffirmed his commitment to further strengthening the longstanding partnership between Pakistan and the AKDN. Prince Rahim Aga Khan also expressed his desire to continue and expand cooperation for the well-being of the people of Pakistan, particularly in the areas of health, education, climate resilience and sustainable socio-economic development.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif invited Prince Rahim Aga Khan to make regular visits to Pakistan, saying such visits would help further strengthen and deepen the bonds of friendship and cooperation built over several decades.
