Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday congratulated Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei on assuming the responsibilities of Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, expressing hope that his leadership will guide the country toward peace, stability, dignity and prosperity.
In a letter addressed to the new Iranian leader, the prime minister also conveyed heartfelt condolences to the Iranian leadership and people on the martyrdom of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, father of Mojtaba Khamenei, and other family members, according to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office.
Prime Minister Shehbaz reiterated the deepest sympathies and prayers of the people of Pakistan during this solemn moment for the brotherly people of Iran and the wider Muslim Ummah. He said the martyrdom of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei had deeply saddened the people of Pakistan, who stand in solidarity with Iran’s leadership and citizens during this difficult time.
The prime minister expressed confidence that the new supreme leader’s guidance would help steer Iran toward greater peace, stability and prosperity in the years ahead.
Highlighting the longstanding ties between the two countries, Shehbaz Sharif said relations between Pakistan and Iran are rooted in shared faith, history, culture and language.
He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation with Iran across various fields of mutual interest for the benefit of the two brotherly nations.
