JI Launches Long March on Islamabad over Petroleum Levy

By Our Correspondent

LAHORE: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has announced that his party will begin a long march towards Islamabad on Sunday to press the government for economic relief and the abolition of the petroleum levy.
Addressing a press conference at Mansoorah, the JI chief accused the government of failing to provide relief to people struggling with rising living costs. He said the rulers were increasing their own expenditures while repeatedly asking citizens to make sacrifices.
Hafiz Naeem said JI representatives had held several rounds of negotiations with the government, during which officials asked the party to submit proposals. He maintained that formulating solutions was the government’s responsibility and said further talks could proceed if the official delegation presented a clear and practical plan.
