ISLAMABAD-UNS: Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has confirmed that Pakistani military personnel are deployed in Saudi Arabia under the Makkah agreement, noting that the presence dates back several decades.

In an interview with CNN, the military spokesperson said Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have maintained longstanding defence ties, with Pakistani troops stationed in the kingdom for many years.

Lt Gen Chaudhry said Pakistani personnel deployed under the Makkah agreement belonged to different military domains, reflecting the broad scope of defence cooperation between the two countries.

He said the longstanding relationship between Islamabad and Riyadh remained an important component of their security partnership.

Pakistan has repeatedly reaffirmed its commitment to Saudi Arabia’s security. In an earlier interview, the DG ISPR said Pakistan stood with the kingdom both diplomatically and physically, including in safeguarding the holy sites in Makkah and Madinah.

The remarks come amid the implementation of the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement involving Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye.

The Pakistani military has described the agreement as a defensive arrangement aimed at strengthening collective deterrence and promoting regional stability.
