ISLAMABAD -UNS: Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand will arrive in Pakistan on Monday for her first official visit to the country since assuming office, marking the first visit by a Canadian foreign minister to Pakistan in nearly two decades.
The visit is being undertaken at the invitation of Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, according to the Foreign Office.
During the visit, Anita Anand and Ishaq Dar will hold comprehensive bilateral talks covering the full spectrum of Pakistan-Canada relations. The discussions will focus on enhancing cooperation in trade and investment, education, and people-to-people exchanges, while also addressing regional and global issues of mutual interest.
The Canadian foreign minister is also scheduled to call on Pakistan’s senior leadership during her stay.
The Foreign Office said the visit reflects the shared commitment of both countries to further strengthen bilateral cooperation and deepen longstanding ties.
In a statement, the Canadian government described the visit as a significant milestone in Canada-Pakistan relations, noting that it is the first visit by a Canadian foreign minister to Pakistan in almost 20 years.
Canada also highlighted the strong people-to-people links between the two countries, with more than 300,000 Canadians of Pakistani origin living in Canada and approximately 20,000 Canadian citizens residing in Pakistan, forming a strong foundation for bilateral relations.
