‘Special Children needs attention in Society’

By Muhammad Mohsin Iqbal

In a world that prides itself on diversity and inclusive, it is disheartening to acknowledge the persistent oversight of special children. These children, with unique needs and abilities, often find themselves on the periphery of society, facing challenges that extend beyond their physical or cognitive differences.

One of the primary reasons special children are overlooked is the pervasive lack of awareness and understanding surrounding their conditions. Society often grapples with misconceptions and stereotypes, perpetuating the notion that these children are a burden rather than individuals with unique potential. A lack of education about various disabilities contributes to an environment where inclusivity takes a back seat.

Special children often require specialized resources, whether it be educational tools, therapeutic interventions, or adaptive technologies. Unfortunately, the inadequacy of such resources creates an environment where the needs of special children are neglected. Limited access to proper healthcare, education, and support systems further perpetuates the cycle of ignorance.

The stigma attached to disabilities is a significant barrier that special children face. Discrimination, whether subtle or overt, contributes to their exclusion from mainstream activities and opportunities. This prejudice extends beyond the individual level, seeping into institutional practices that perpetuate inequality.

In many cases, families with special children face economic challenges that limit their ability to access essential resources. The financial burden associated with medical treatments, therapies, and special education can be overwhelming. As a result, families may withdraw from societal engagement, inadvertently isolating special children from broader community interactions.

The absence of comprehensive policies and legislation for the inclusion of special children in various spheres of life contributes to their neglect. Governments and institutions must actively work towards creating an inclusive framework that safeguards the rights and well-being of special children, ensuring they are not left behind.

Societal attitudes often prioritize conventional standards of success, beauty, and achievement, neglecting the diverse talents and capabilities of special children. The prevailing focus on ‘normalcy’ creates an environment where those who deviate from the norm are marginalized, leading to their exclusion from mainstream activities and opportunities.

The disregard for special children on a larger scale is a complex issue rooted in societal attitudes, lack of awareness, and systemic failures. To address this challenge, a collective effort is required to shift perspectives, promote understanding, and advocate for inclusive policies that empower special children to reach their full potential. By fostering an environment that embraces diversity, we can work towards a society where no child is left behind.
