Taliban detain nearly 100 Tajik and Uzbek elders in Takhar amid TTP resettlement dispute

KABUL -UNS : Reports circulating from Afghanistan claim that the Afghan Taliban have detained nearly 100 prominent Tajik and Uzbek tribal elders in Takhar province after local communities reportedly refused to accept the resettlement of families linked to the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

According to the reports, local residents opposed plans to allocate community land to outsiders and demanded that the authorities reverse any decision to settle TTP-linked families in the area.

Community representatives argued that such a move would alter the province’s demographic composition and undermine the rights of the local population.

Sources further claimed that the detained elders had been leading discussions with Taliban authorities over the issue and were taken into custody following growing tensions between local communities and officials.

Local residents warned that any attempt to redistribute land or introduce demographic changes without public consent could trigger continued resistance at the community level.

They urged the Taliban administration to respect local land rights and avoid policies that could further inflame tensions in northern Afghanistan.
