Iran Says No Final Decision Yet on Peace Deal Proposed by Trump

TEHRAN – UNS: Iran has stated that no final agreement has been reached on a proposed peace deal that U.S. President Donald Trump claims could be signed within days.

Speaking at the White House on Thursday, Trump said the United States and Iran were close to finalizing an agreement that would help end the three-month conflict and reopen the strategically important Strait of Hormuz to international shipping.

According to Trump, the deal could be signed as early as this weekend in Europe, possibly by U.S. Vice President JD Vance. He also suggested that Iran’s supreme leadership had approved the framework of the agreement.

However, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmaeil Baghaei, said that while much of the draft text has been completed, Iranian authorities are still reviewing the proposal.

“We have not reached a final conclusion,” Baghaei said, adding that Iran would not compromise on its key national interests.
If finalized, the agreement would represent the most significant diplomatic breakthrough since the conflict began in late February. The war has resulted in thousands of deaths, mainly in Iran and Lebanon, while also driving up global energy prices and disrupting regional stability.

Trump said the proposed agreement would guarantee that Iran cannot develop or acquire nuclear weapons. Iran has consistently denied seeking such weapons.
Iran is reportedly seeking the removal of international sanctions, access to frozen financial assets, and recognition of its authority over the Strait of Hormuz as part of any settlement.

Despite a ceasefire announced in April, tensions have remained high. Recent days have seen renewed military exchanges, including U.S. strikes near the Strait of Hormuz and Iranian missile and drone attacks on American positions in the region.
In Bahrain, authorities reported that debris from intercepted Iranian drones injured an 11-year-old girl and damaged several homes.

Financial markets reacted positively to Trump’s announcement, with oil prices falling and U.S. stocks rising amid hopes that a broader regional conflict could be avoided.

Key Point: While Trump says a peace agreement is imminent, Iran insists that negotiations are still under review and no final decision has been made.
