UNS: Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, held a meeting with Saudi Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman to discuss the recent Iranian attacks on Saudi Arabia and explore measures to halt the escalation under the framework of the Pakistan-Saudi Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement.
According to a statement posted by Prince Khalid bin Salman on X early Saturday, the meeting focused on ways to stop the attacks, which he said threaten the security and stability of the region.
The talks come amid heightened tensions in the Middle East after the United States and Israel launched strikes on Iran on February 28. In response, Tehran reportedly targeted several US bases across the Gulf region, including sites in Saudi Arabia, using missiles and drones.
Prince Khalid bin Salman said he met with “His Excellency the Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of the Pakistani Army, Field Marshal Asim Munir,” and discussed the situation in the context of the defence cooperation between the two countries.
“We discussed the Iranian attacks on the kingdom within the framework of the joint strategic defence agreement between our two brotherly countries and ways to stop these attacks, which do not serve the security and stability of the region,” he wrote, expressing hope that Iran would exercise wisdom and avoid “wrong calculations”.
Pakistan and Saudi Arabia signed the landmark Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement (SMDA) in September last year, under which an attack on either country is considered an act of aggression against both.
