Islamabad:An Islamabad court on Tuesday granted interim pre-arrest bail to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in seven separate cases related to the Toshakhana matter, protest activities, and other politically sensitive incidents.
The order was issued by Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Afzal Majoka at the District and Sessions Court Islamabad. The court approved pre-arrest bail in six cases against Imran Khan and one case against Bushra Bibi, directing both to submit surety bonds of Rs50,000 each.
The cases include allegations of fake receipts in the Toshakhana reference, the Karachi Company case, the attempted murder of former Minister of State Mohsin Shahnawaz Ranjha, two cases registered at Kohsar Police Station linked to the Azadi March protests, and allegations involving prominent figures associated with the PTI.
Prosecutors opposed the bail pleas, arguing that substantial evidence existed against the accused. Defence counsel Salman Safdar maintained that the applications had strong legal grounds, pointing to procedural delays, repeated adjournments, and the failure of jail authorities to produce Imran Khan before the court despite orders.
After hearing arguments from both sides, the court granted interim bail, providing temporary relief to the couple while investigations and trial proceedings continue.
Separately, Imran Khan underwent his second anti-VEGF injection for central retinal vein occlusion in his right eye at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), Islamabad. He was transported from Adiala Jail under strict security arrangements late at night.
Hospital officials stated that the procedure was carried out in a controlled operating theatre under the supervision of ophthalmology specialists from PIMS and Shifa International Eye Hospital. Prior to the injection, cardiovascular clearance was obtained through echocardiography and ECG examinations. His condition remained stable throughout the procedure, and he was discharged the same day.
According to PTI officials, including Barrister Gohar Khan, a third injection has been scheduled for March 23, and future treatment is expected to be conducted at Shifa International Hospital under the supervision of Imran Khan’s personal doctors.
Legal experts say the bail order offers only temporary respite in a series of politically charged cases, while the outcome of ongoing investigations may significantly shape the political climate. Meanwhile, Imran Khan’s health condition continues to attract public attention, highlighting the intersection of medical concerns with judicial and political developments.
