Cultural heritage holds great significance for creating awareness among future generations: Gilani

ISLAMABAD -UNS:Chairman Senate Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, while addressing the inaugural ceremony of an organization named CultuRise, said that cultural heritage holds great significance and its preservation is essential for creating awareness among future generations, imparting knowledge about civilization and traditions, and understanding social values. Welcoming the Chairman of CultuRise Dr. Muhammad Amjad, esteemed ambassadors, diplomatic representatives, and UNESCO delegates, the Chairman Senate expressed his pleasure, stating that it is encouraging to see that CultuRise has emerged as a modern and revolutionary initiative dedicated to the protection, education, awareness, and effective advocacy of heritage across the country. Their commendable efforts reflect the collective commitment required to preserve cultural heritage.

The presence of the diplomatic community and UNESCO representatives at the ceremony signifies the importance of international cooperation for the protection of cultural heritage whether it is Spain’s magnificent Alhambra, Hungary’s historic Buda Castle, or Pakistan’s Mohenjo-Daro, Lahore Fort, and the ancient gates of old Multan these sites are not only national assets but part of a shared human legacy. He emphasized that the preservation and promotion of culture, art, and heritage is a collective responsibility, whether it be governments, parliaments, institutions, or individuals we all must play our part in passing on this great human heritage to future generations.

Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani stated that Pakistan’s cultural heritage is like a bouquet of diverse civilizations, languages, and traditions. Our archaeological and cultural heritage has flourished in the cradle of great civilizations like Gandhara, the Indus Valley, and Mehrgarh. From the ruins of Takht Bhai the capital of the ancient Gandhara civilization to the famous landmarks of the Mughal era, each era has etched its marks in our history. Whether it be the blue tiles and pottery of Multan, the exquisite embroidery and mirror work of Sindh and Balochistan, or the delicate woodwork of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa our craftsmanship, folk music, literature, and unique architectural styles are manifestations of our national identity and resilience. However, this great heritage is now facing numerous challenges. Urban development, neglect, and the pressures of modern times are eroding the foundations of our identity. In such times, heritage preservation is not merely about remembering the past it is a national duty we owe to our future generations.

The Chairman Senate further said that the theme of this evening resonates with the voice of our hearts. As Chairman of the Senate, I reiterate the commitment of the Upper House to ensure the protection of our tangible and intangible cultural heritage. We must invest in education, capacity building, and public awareness so that our cultural wealth is not only preserved but also becomes a source of pride for future generations. We must also remember that our heritage is a means of connecting with the world. Through the universal language of art and culture, we can promote peace, harmony, and a positive image of Pakistan on the global stage. On the joyful occasion of CultuRise’s launch, I appeal to everyone present here to become ambassadors of heritage.
In conclusion, he said that we must unite to protect the stories, traditions, and masterpieces that form our national identity. In doing so, we will not only pay tribute to our ancestors but also inspire our younger generation to take pride in their heritage.
