ISLAMABAD -UNS: Discussions are ongoing between Muslim League (N) and Pakistan People’s Party for cooperation on constitutional posts. PPP is eyeing the seat of Speaker of the National Assembly.
Former Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani is a strong candidate for the post of speaker in PPP, but sitting Speaker Raja Pervez Ashraf is also willing to take the speaker-ship for two terms. He is also very close to party chief Asif Ali Zardari.
The chances of Yusuf Raza Gilani are high. The tradition is that if there is a Speaker from Punjab, the Deputy Speaker is taken from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Earlier, Murtaza Javed Abba, Faisal Karim Kundi and Zahid Akram Durrani have been Deputy Speakers from KP.
This time,there is possibilities for Sardar Muhammad Yusuf from KP became a strong candidate for Deputy Speaker after Murtaza Javed Abbasi of PML-N lost the seat.
PML-N is eyeing on Chairman Senate. For this constitution post PML-N Chief Sharif closed adviser Ishaq Dar is strong candidate in case of not being made Finance Minister. Ishaq Dar will be the candidate for Chairman Senate, otherwise Azam Nazir Tarar will be the candidate.
The post of Deputy Chairman Senate is traditionally given to Balochistan. Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haidari, Jan Jamali, Sabir Baloch and Noor Jahan Panizai have held this position. According to sources the post of Deputy Chairman of the Senate will be given to Balochistan this time as well.
