ISLAMABAD : Three more names have joined the race for the caretaker prime minister’s post.Among them are former finance minister Dr Hafeez Sheikh, former federal minister Humayun Akhtar Khan and former federal minister Faisal Wada.
The recent visit of the IMF team to Pakistan has had a profound impact on Pakistani politics and has suggested the ruling powers of Pakistan to change their decisions and strategy.
The IMF team has expressed its surprise at the proposed nominations for the positions of the current government and the proposed nominations for the positions of the care taker government.
According to the sources, the ruling powers have realized that in order to deal with the IMF and other international financial institutions, there is a need for a caretaker prime minister who understands the global economic and financial affairs.
In this regard, the establishment revisits their consideration for care-taker set-up.
The sources said that Dr Hafeez Sheikh is in touch with the establishment and Humayun Akhtar has been summoned to Islamabad for a special meeting on Tuesday.
According to the sources, Humayun Akhtar and Dr Hafeez Sheikh are serious candidates for caretaker prime minister. The establishment has started work on these two candidates. An important meeting is scheduled with Humayun Akhtar on Tuesday, but Hafeez Sheikh is already in contact with the establishment, but when powerful circles recommended Mohsin Baig’s name, Sheikh went into the background. However, now the situation is changing rapidly.
Humayun Akhtar was also a strong candidate for Prime Minister during the former President General Musharraf’s tenure, but at that time he could not become the Prime Minister due to the opposition of Chaudhry Shujaat and brothers.
Regarding Faisal Wada, sources said that he also offered his services for caretaker prime minister.
It is too early to finalize anyone for caretaker prime minister as things are changing fast, but it is certain that people like Hafeez Sheikh and Humayun Akhtar will not be replaced by candidates like Mohsin Baig or Faisal Wada.
It should be noted that there is a dire need to improve the economic governance in the current poor economic situation of the country.
