The inflation bomb of 35 percent is going to kill more than the all the terror bombs put together. Inflation has shredded the common man’s food security and made it impossible for him to feed his family.
Forty percent of the children in this country had stunted growth when they were getting three meals a day, now with two meals or one in many conditions the entire population will be malnourished and stunted if the prevailing political and economic situation continues unabated. In the Human Development Index (HDI) ranking of 189 countries, Pakistan has slipped badly. It has fallen from the 154th position in 2020 to the 161st position in 2021 and further in 2022.
Pakistan has the lowest HDI ranking among South Asian countries, even below Bangladesh and Nepal.
Pakistan feeds and pampers only its elite at the expense of the common man no wonder Pakistan has the lowest HDI ranking among South Asian countries.
The public has no place to run as the government and IMF join hands to further squeeze the blood and hard-earned cash from the poor. While the coffers of the rich are stacked with gold and dollars the state lies in a destitute condition begging foreign states and institutions for more money to squander and support their lavish state sponsored lifestyle.
Free electricity, bullet proof Mercedes, medical treatment abroad, lifetime perks and privileges free gold watches and gifts from the Tosha Khana (state treasury),unjustified salaries, concessions from the state for friends and families has devastated the country’s economy and structure. The country’s existence and the lifestyle of the elite contradict not only the teaching of Islam but of basic ethics and democratic norms.
No wonder a few honorable parliamentarians have protested and asked for the dissolution of the existing parliament and new elections.
The common man continues to pay with his sweat and blood for the follies and corruption of the Pakistani elite- will the status quo continue or will it change for the better.
The tell-tale signs from the street are very negative, the common man is absolutely dismayed from the working of the government particularly the handling of the economic affairs.
All political parties are to blame for the existing economic and political turmoil. Eight thousand educated youth left the country last year due to the failure of the government to provide them any respectable jobs.
The brains are leaving Pakistan- perhaps we don’t need brains to run this corruption ridden country.
The Pakistani nation that was born from the vivisection of the subcontinent ushering one of the largest population migration and deaths of millions of people has finally metamorphosed into a kleptocracy instead of a Islamic state as promised by the founders.
The kleptocracy has a flag, a national anthem, and all the requisite of a failed state but unfortunately no security, peace, justice, education, health or hope for the future of its inhabitants.
Even the Parliamentarians are complaining after witnessing the Peshawar tragedy resulting in the deaths of more than a hundred people – was it a localized security failure or an absolute failure of the National Action Plan-the plan which was born as a result of the massacre of 150 people, 134 students in the Army Public School by the Talibans who the government later released from jails as a result of an amnesty deal.
The institutions have lost credibility like the government and we are reaping what we sowed. The Strategic depth, the good Taliban and bad Taliban doctrine and the 70 years of political engineering have finally produced bitter fruits.
The IMF is here because of the corrupt deeds of our ruling class- the winter will not be over with the coming of the spring. The wolves will be sitting at our door for a long time unless the people wake up and realize their follies. CR-WORLD TRIBUNE PAK
