ISLAMABAD -UNS: Former Federal Minister and leader of World Minorities Alliance Canon Jay Salk said that the method of representation of minorities in the Parliament is a violation of Article 226 of the Constitution.
Those who sit on specific seats in assemblies cannot be public representatives in any way, specific seats are not representative of the people but the representatives of the parties. The Supreme Court has given a decision in this regard after thirteen years.He expressed these views in his residence holding a crowded press conference.
Jay Salik further said that the Charter of Minorities Rights was signed by Sir Zafarullah Khan, under Article 226 of the Constitution, no seat of the minorities can be held without voting, but the People’s Party on the 18th amendment, it has been handed over to the provinces instead of the federation, the specific seats allocated for minorities in the assemblies are not representative of the people but the representatives of the parties.
The basic structure of the constitution cannot be tampered with in any way, the rights of minorities are not protected in the 18th amendment.
It has been done by the founder of Pakistan, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah had declared the minorities as a sacred trust, but after the 18th amendment, we have become the trust of the provinces. The minority ministry has been abolished and given to the provinces, he has directly allocated seats for the minorities.
