TARBELA GHAZI (OUR CORRESPONDENT):In a significant development for the labor movement in Pakistan, the “Pakistan United Workers Federation” (PUWF), a coalition of the country’s 10 largest labor federations, has been formally registered. The National Industrial Relations Commission (NIRC) in Islamabad officially issued the registration certificate, marking the establishment of the country’s largest and most unified labor organization. PUWF is now set to represent millions of workers across Pakistan, with its leadership and members actively working in all four provinces.
Muhammad Aslam Adil, a well-known labor leader and General Secretary of the Public Labor Union (CBA) at Tarbela Dam, hailed this achievement, offering heartfelt congratulations to all the federation’s officials and members. He expressed confidence that under the visionary leadership of Zahoor Awan, a renowned labor icon and member of the Governing Body of the International Labour Organization (ILO), the federation would become an even stronger force, ensuring the protection of labor rights with renewed vigor.
Aslam Adil emphasized the critical importance of unity among workers, stressing that only a united front can effectively challenge the exploitative practices of capitalist systems. He highlighted that PUWF has paved the way for fresh, young leadership to rise within its ranks, ensuring a dynamic and progressive approach to the challenges faced by the working class.
Addressing the grave incident in Balochistan’s Duki district, where innocent laborers were brutally massacred, Adil voiced his strong condemnation. He demanded that the culprits responsible for this heinous act must face the strictest possible punishment. He also raised serious concerns about the deteriorating law and order situation in the country, warning that this instability is causing a sharp rise in unemployment.
Adil noted that Pakistan’s working class is bearing the brunt of this economic and security crisis, leaving countless families in a state of despair and uncertainty. He urged the government to take immediate and decisive action to restore law and order and to address the alarming surge in joblessness, which is deepening the plight of the country’s poorest citizens.
