SJC’s proceedings against retired judges to continue, rules SC

ISLAMABAD-UNS: The Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday issued a verdict on whether to proceed with the Supreme Judicial Council’s action against retired or resigned judges.

In its brief decision, the Supreme Court stated that the Supreme Judicial Council will not halt its proceedings due to the judge’s resignation; the authority to continue proceedings against the resigned judge rests with the Judicial Council.

The Supreme Court delivered a split decision in the secured judgment of 4-1, with Justice Hasan Azhar Rizvi expressing dissent.

In its ruling, the Supreme Court of Pakistan has stated that the federal government’s appeal is accepted partially.
