ISLAMABAD: The 12th and crucial General Elections of the history of Pakistan concluded with many controversies.The polling process was held on February 8,2024.Over 60 millions of Pakistanis exercised their right to vote and elect their representatives in the 590 four provincial assemblies and the 265 National Assembly of the country. ECP finally completes vote count on third day of the polling.
This marked one of the nation’s most fiercely contested political battles, with an estimated voter turnout ranging from 45 to 50 percent.
The polling was held in a positive,peaceful way but after counting of votes rigging and minipulation was reported in country.Despite mass rigging in elections,jailed leader Imran Khans’ PTI has emerged as a single largest political party of Pakistan.
According to the provisional results, the results for 264 out of 266 seats of the National Assembly have been announced. In one constituency, NA-8, election could not be held due to the killing of a candidate, while the result of another has been withheld by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
According to the results announced so far, independent candidates have managed to win 101 seats. It is worth mentioning that out of these 101 independent candidates, 92 are supported by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf while nine are general independent candidates. PML-N is in the second position with 75 seats, while the PPP has won 54 seats.
The MQM won in 17 constituencies of Pakistan, JUI four, PML-Q also won in three constituencies, while the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party and Balochistan National Party won two seats each. Moreover, the MWM, National Party, PML-Z, Balochistan Awami Party, Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party and Pashtunkhwa National Awami Party have won one seat each.
Punjab Assembly: Results of 296 constituencies of the Punjab Assembly have been received on the Election Management System, out of which PML-N candidates have won in 137 constituencies, while independent candidates have won in 138. The PPP has grabbed 10 seats, PML-Q eight seats, while the TLP and Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party have won one seat each.
Sindh Assembly:The results of all 130 constituencies of Sindh Assembly have been received on the Election Management System, with the PPP winning in 84 constituencies, MQM 28, independents in 14 constituencies, and the GDA has won two seats.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly:The results of 111 out of 113 seats of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly have been released. Independent candidates have won 90 seats, while the PML-N won five, PPP four, Jamaat-e-Islami three and JUI seven seats.
Balochistan Assembly: The results of 48 out of 51 constituencies of Balochistan Assembly have been completed. According to the Election Commission, Pakistan Peoples Party is leading with 11 seats, while Muslim League-N has 9 seats, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam has 9 seats, independent candidates have won 6 seats. While Balochistan National Party and Jamaat-e-Islami got one seat each.
