Lahore -UNS: Chairman of the Markazi Kisan League (MKL) Chaudhry Zulfiqar Ali Olakh and President Ashfaq Virk have rejected the government’s announcement of Rs. 3,500 per 40 Kg as the wheat support price, declaring that the proposed rate does not even cover the cost of production for farmers.
In a joint statement, they emphasized that farmers are the backbone of Pakistan’s economy, yet they are repeatedly deprived of their due rights. “We will not allow the exploitation of farmers in Punjab,” they stated, urging the government to reassess the wheat price in consultation with farmer representatives to ensure a fair and sustainable return.
The MKL leaders also highlighted the devastating impact of recent floods in Punjab, which destroyed vast areas of farmland and standing crops, and called on the government to provide immediate relief and compensation to the affected farmers.
Chaudhry Zulfiqar Ali Olakh and Ashfaq Warraich further criticized the government’s inefficient economic policies, saying that the continuous rise in the prices of flour, sugar, vegetables, and other essential commodities reflects poor governance and mismanagement. “The government should move beyond holding meetings and instead focus on providing real relief to the common man,” they added.
Reaffirming their commitment, they stated that the MKL will continue to serve as the voice of farmers and stand by them in their struggle for their legitimate rights.
