Kiwis openers Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra put on 86 for the opening wicket to begin the run-chase in emphatic fashion before Sri Lankan’s bowling attack got breakthrough by removing them.
After Kane Williamson fell for 14 and Champan dismissed for seven, Daryl Mitchell held the command to pace up the chase with his 43 off 31.
Mitchell moved onto the front foot and played a sloppy drive, and was caught by Asalanka on the off side with his side needing 10 runs to clinch the win.
