Pakistan’s semis hopes shattered as New Zealand beat Sri Lanka

BENGALURU -UNS: New Zealand on Thursday managed to keep their ICC World Cup 2023 campaign on track with a thumping win of five wickets over Sri Lanka in Bengaluru.

Kiwis openers Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra put on 86 for the opening wicket to begin the run-chase in emphatic fashion before Sri Lankan’s bowling attack got breakthrough by removing them.

After Kane Williamson fell for 14 and Champan dismissed for seven, Daryl Mitchell held the command to pace up the chase with his 43 off 31.

Mitchell moved onto the front foot and played a sloppy drive, and was caught by Asalanka on the off side with his side needing 10 runs to clinch the win.

Later, Glenn Philips managed to smashed the remaining scores to win the match.

The emphatic victory against Sri Lanka in Bengaluru has given some relief to Kane Williamson & Co, with Pakistan and Afghanistan breathing down their necks.

Earlier, a sensational bowling performance helped New Zealand restrict Sri Lanka from building a challenging total in a crucial match.

The Blackcaps bowled the Lankans out for 171 in 46.4 overs at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru, thanks to magical bowling spell by Trent Boult.
