PESHAWAR -UNS: Former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf leader and defence minister Pervez Khattak on Monday formed his own political party after parting with the original party.
The party has been named Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (Parliamentarians) and Khattak will be its head.
According to details, 0ver 57 former MNAs, MPAs and candidates attended the meeting and joined Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Parliamentarians. the prominent figures include former chief minister Mehmood Khan, former provincial minster Ishtiaq Urmar, former minister Ziaullah Bangash, MPA Malik Wajid, Walson Wazir, and MNA Arbab Waseem Ghazan Jamal, Sher Akbar Khan, Saleh Muhammad Khan, Imran Khattak, Muhammad yaqoob Sheikh and Sahukat Ali.
Earlier, Liaquat Khattak, Pervez Khattak’s brother and former KP assembly member, had left the party earlier in 2021 and joined the PPP. Later, in 2022, he jumped to the JUI-F.
Sources said his negotiation with the PML-N did not bear fruit and he opted to form his own party, which is a setback to the PTI.
A meeting was chaired by Khattak on Monday in which 57 former MNAs and MPAs hailing from PTI participated to formulate the future strategy. The incidents of 9 May were severely condemned during the maiden meeting of PTI Parliamentarians.
The sources said that the party flag and manifesto was also discussed during the meeting.
Earlier, former members of PTI from Punjab also gathered under a new name with old faces as Jehangir Khan Tareen and Aleem Khan had formed Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP).
