ISLAMABAD : National Highway Council (NHC) approved the most controvertial project of the construction of proposed multi story residential complex at junction of M1 and M2 loop /interchange in Islamabad. The meeting of the NHC was held under the chairmanship of Federal Minister of Communication, Asad Mehmood in Islamabad, on the other day.
According to details the committee has given the final approval to the most controvertail project. The committee meeting was held under the chairmanship of the Minister of Communications. The Chairman of the committee, in which permission has been given to construct ion of apartments project at the junction of M1 and M2.
It will be the first project of the world and Pakistan to be built in which the basic international principles and rules of Motorways will be violated. There is no legal or principle justification for this proposed project, but due to the personal interest of the Minister of Communications and the Chairman NHA,the NHC committee approved the project bulldozing all rules and regulations.
There is no example of such residential projects being implemented on the motorways in the world, but Pakistan is the only country in which the ruling class puts the projects of national importance in front of their vested interests.
NHA management gives justification for this project to fulfills the residential needs of the employees.
Which is a good thing, but this project is unsuitable in all respects at the established location i.e. the junction of the motorways M1 and M2.
According to sources this decision will have implications throughout the country on the Motor Ways and NHA highways network. As it will be harder for NHA to get compliance of building line.
This will further aggravate the road safety situation on Motorways and High ways in the country.
The sources said that NHA will be using its maintenance funds for the construction of this proposed residential complex. Whereas most of the Highways and some of the Motorways sections in the country are in dire need of maintenance.
It is mentioned here that the proposed multi story residential complex project was opposed by eleven members NHA Executive Board in the last meeting which was held last week.
According to details the NHA Chairman could not convinced the members (experts) as they failed to reply the technical points raised by the said members.
The sources said that Chairman NHA imposed his decision on NHA Executive Board and approved the proposed project as per desired of the Minister of Communication.
According to the sources the Chairman NHA is misusing his powers with tacit support of Federal Minister of Communication bulldozing all rules and regulations for their vested.(Copy Rights: WORLD TRIBUNE PAK)
