GUJRANWALA : Gujranwala city is also called the city of wrestlers. ‘Aukhara’ culture is present in every home. There is a wrestler in every home of this city. Gujranwala has given many international level wrestlers and players. One of these players is wrestler Inam Butt who needs no introduction. Inam Butt,is the five-time World Beach Champion, two-time Commonwealth Champion and one-time Asian Gold Medalist.
Talking to ‘WORLD TRIBUNE’, he said that, he had a passion for wrestling since childhood and started wrestling under the coaching of his father and after many years of training and hard work, he became the second Pakistani to win a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in 2010.He said that he had won a bronze medal at the 2014 Asian Beach Games, a gold medal at the 2016 South Asian Games, a gold medal at the 2016, Asian Beach Games, a silver medal at the 2016 Commonwealth Wrestling Championships, a gold medal at the 2016 World Beach Championships, and a silver medal at the 2017 Commonwealth Wrestling Championships.
Butt won a gold medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, a gold medal at the 2018 World Beach Wrestling Championships, a gold medal at the 2019 South Asian Games, a silver medal at the 2019 World Beach Series, a gold medal at the 2019 ANOC World Beach Games, a bronze medal at the 2019 ANOC World Beach Games, and a bronze medal at the 2018 Round 12.
He has won a gold medal in the 2021 World Beach Series, a gold medal in the 2021 World Beach Wrestling Series and a silver medal in the 2022 Commonwealth Games. He further said that in 2019, he was awarded the Pride of Performance Award by the government.He further said that in 2019, he was awarded the Pride of Performance Award by the government. Inam Butt further said that he has started a club called Inam Wrestling Club for young players and children new to the game, which is for everyone. The players of this club are already earning a name at the national and international level.
Inam Butt says he is thankful to the Pakistan Sports Board and the Punjab government for providing facilities and patronizing the Inam Wrestling Club. Talking about his future, he said, “I am focusing on my fitness and working hard to ensure that I remain fully fit. And my first goal is to win a gold medal for my country at the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028.”
Inam Butt has appealed to the government, sports officials, and parents to encourage children to play sports, no matter what sport they are. This will prevent children from going in the negative direction and the society will remain safe from addictions like drugs.
