TANK/D.I. KHAN-UNS: The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 40 Dave (Al -Baraq) Major General Nik Nam Nam Mohammad Baig, holding a grand jirga in Chakan Fort.Prominent religious scholars ,tribal elders,leaders from Dera, Lakki Marwat and Tank participated in the jirga.
Addressing the jirga, the GOC discussed the security situation in the region, the sacrifices of law enforcement agencies in the establishment of law and order in the area, and the promotion of peace. He said that people, religious leadership, civil institutions and armed forces will have to come to one page to tackle the challenges facing the country. He said the nation could not afford any more sacrifices
The GOC said that, the time has come for religious leaders to guide the public in a positive direction and to hold on to the intellectual front against extremism.
He made it clear that no ideology, movement or personal interest can be given priority over national security,interest and collective development.
Ulema and Mashaykh participated in the jirga announced full support for the law enforcing agencies services of law enforcement and also offered various suggestions.
The participants also expressed their commitment that they would publicize the message of peace, unity and harmony in their own scope.
Finally, it was unanimously decided that every effort would be made to eliminate extremism at the local level, restore confidence in state institutions and to establish lasting peace in the society.
The GOC also presented all the participants as gifts of the Quaran.
