ISLAMABAD -UNS: The National Transport Research Centre is to provide input in 5th Global Status Report on Road Safety (GSRRS5) under the auspicious of World Health Organization (WHO).
Ministry of Communications/National Transport Research Centre (NTRC), being lead agency in road safety, is actively contributing in World Health Organization’s 5th Global Status Report on Road Safety (GSRRS5).
Chief NTRC has been designated as National Data Focal Person (NDFP)from Pakistan to provide national input. The purpose of this report is to compare the progress made by various nations across the globe in relation to the objectives set forth in the Second Decade of Action for Road Safety as per United Nation’s resolution.
In this connection, the first dialogue discussion with WHO was held on 16th December, 2022 wherein Chief NTRC – Mr. Hameed Akhtar elaborated that this report will assist in monitoring the progress on the targets set in National Road Safety Strategy 2018 – 2030 (NRSS), National Road Safety Action Plan 2020 – 2024, and international commitments such as UN SDG target 3.6: which seeks to reduce road traffic deaths and injuries by 50 percent by 2030 and UN SDG target 11.2: which aims to provide access to safe, affordable, accessible, and sustainable transport by 2030.
He also expressed that the compilation of national data on road safety was a tough task which was accomplished with effective support of Police departments, Health and Emergency services, Transport departments and Communication & works departments at both national and provincial levels. At the end of session, WHO Headquarters appreciated the efforts of Mr. Hameed Akhtar and otheragencies at national and provincial levels for compilation of this data.WHO further extended its full support to the Pakistan’s team for upcoming stages.
