New York, NY-UNS: NYC Health + Hospitals announced the appointments of Melissa L. Martin, MD, MPH and Lucan Rodrigues MD, CMD as the new Chief Medical Officers at NYC Health + Hospitals/Coler and NYC Health + Hospitals/McKinney.

Dr. Melissa Martin has served in various executive roles in medical leadership, across major post-acute care facilities, and managed care organizations in New York City, over the last 15 years. Prior to joining NYC Health + Hospitals, Dr. Martin served as Medical Director for ArchCare at Terence Cardinal Cooke Health Care Center, a 615-bed facility in Manhattan, where she had direct oversight of physicians and nurse practitioners. She led a re-hospitalization project that resulted in the reduction of the 30-day re-hospitalization rate from 28% to 13%. Dr. Martin also developed and implemented programs for Palliative Care, Behavioral Health, and Heart Failure. She served as Medical Director for The New Jewish Home Manhattan (previously Jewish Home Lifecare Manhattan), managing a 514-bed facility with direct supervision of 22 physicians and nurse practitioners. Her other roles include Medical Director with New York-based HealthPlus Amerigroup Managed Care Company, where she led the Utilization Management Department.
Dr. Martin is board certified in Internal Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, and Hospice and Palliative Care. She has served as Assistant Clinical Professor of Geriatric and Palliative Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai; and Assistant Professor of Medicine at Weill Medical College of Cornell University. She earned her Bachelor’s in Psychology from Yale University and Masters of Public Health in Health Services Management from the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University. She received her Doctor of Medicine from Weill Medical College of Cornell University.
Dr. Lucan Rodrigues received his designation of Certified Medical Director (CMD) from the American Board of Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine. He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Geriatrics, Palliative, and Hospice Medicine. Prior to joining NYC Health + Hospitals, Dr. Rodrigues served as Chief Medical Officer and Vice President of Medical Services at Silvercrest Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation in Queens, New York. He also served as Chief of Palliative and Hospice Medicine at Flushing Hospital Medical Center (FHMC).
Dr. Rodrigues earned his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry with a minor in women’s studies from SUNY Stonybrook. Following his medical school degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine, he did his residency and Geriatric Fellowship at NYU & Winthrop University Hospital, and was Palliative Care Chief Fellow at Mount Sinai Beth Israel. Dr. Rodrigues also trained as a community service physician delivering medical care in underserved areas in Bangladesh with a focus on primary and secondary prevention.
