Council Member Tiffany Cabán’s Statement on Trump victory

New York City-UNS: New York City Council Member Tiffany Cabán released the following statement reflecting upon Donald Trump’s victory in the 2024 Presidential election:

Tiffany said that “This is awful. I’m not going to pretend to have answers. The Trump agenda is going to be hateful and harmful and we’re going to have to fight like hell against it.

In tough moments like today, I am all the more grateful to serve our local community in New York City. In the face of Trump’s dangerous agenda, we will continue to fight to make New York a safe haven for immigrants, LGBTQIA+ people, women, people of color, folks with disabilities and everyone else who will be targeted by the Trump administration.

As I was reminded by a beloved movement partner, the urgency of this moment makes it all the more critical that we create space for rest and take care of ourselves because this is a marathon, not a sprint, and our movement needs us all.

Remember, political inflection points are part of the long arc of history, and we must believe we will bend it toward justice.

Check in with yourself and others early and often. Drink water! And let’s continue to fight for our collective dignity, safety and, yes, joy.

I’m grateful to be in community and in this work together. Nos tenemos.”
