India opposing BRICS membership to Pakistan; Russia in favor: Ambassador Albert

ISLAMABAD: Ambassador of Russian Federation in Pakistan,Albert Khorev has said that Russia keen to boost bilateral  relations in all fields with Pakistan. ‘Russia want to give membership of BRICS to Pakistan because Pakistan is very important country of the region and can play positive role in the regional connectivity and integration’. He was talking to World Tribune Pak during dinner hosted by Association of Pakistan Graduates from Russia, CIS  and Office of the Ambassador of Russian Education ,Science to Pakistan,on Friday.

The Ambassador said that Pakistan is very important country in the region and can play positive role in the BRICS. He said Russia ,Pakistan have great potential of cooperation in all fields including energy, agriculture and education. He said Russia is ready to extend cooperation to Pakistanis universities in different areas.

Responding to a question he said  ‘India opposing Pakistans’ membership in BRICS but Russia is keen to give membership to Pakistan in near future.’ He said Russia as Chairman of BRICS will consider expanding the  bloc at a time of great interest in the group that accounts for a quarter of global wealth.

Opinions differ between Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa over accepting new members into the loosely-defined club of major emerging economies that is seeking an alternative to the Western-led international order.

Over 45 countries have shown some level of interest in joining the BRICS from across the ‘Global South and East’, a broad term referring to nations outside the West.

China, the most powerful of the BRICS economically, is eager to rapidly grow the club into something of a counterpoint to the G7 group of wealthy democracies.

The Ambassador described the BRICS as “the most important platform for cooperation among emerging markets and developing countries” and said Russia as new Chairman is ready to work with other members to “expand and strengthen” the bloc.
