EVAW/G Alliance KP calls for action now to end gender-based violence against women

PESHAWAR -UNS: EVAW/G Alliance Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Calls upon the decision makers and stakeholders to take sustainable and action based initiatives to combat violence against women and girls in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The call was made in community level activities organized to commemorate 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, by Blue Veins in collaboration with EVAW/G Alliance, with the support of UN Women and Aurat Foundation under ‘CSO Engagement for Promoting Rule of Law, Legal Literacy and Women’s access to justice in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa including newly merged districts’ project.

According to the press statement, Different community based activities were held in District Khyber, Kurram, Mardan, and Kohat under the campaign of 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence.

Along with raising awareness against violence against women and girls, the campaign and communities called for national and provincial level actions for combatting gender based violence and considerable efforts to promote women’s and girls’ autonomy and choice and to ensure the realization of the right of women and girls to a life free from violence.

Violence against women and girls remains the most pervasive women rights’ violation in Pakistan and particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Its prevalence is now being expected to further increase by the intersecting crises of climate change, humanitarian crisis and economic instability.

Through the campaign activities, EVAW/G Alliance called for immediate and responsive actions for protection for women and girls from all forms of violence, the campaign activities implemented by EVAW’G Alliance also focused on advocating with the government to adopt an inclusive legal protection framework that ensures women and girls’ protection against any forms of gender-based violence in KP.

Qamar Naseem Co-Chair EVAW/G Alliance KP said, “The solidarity and coordination among EVAW alliance members during the campaign indicates that CSOs are all stronger together and reaffirms their commitment to working throughout the year to end violence against women and girls in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and bring the change needed. The campaign calls for greater involvement of all segments of society in efforts to combat gender-based violence, especially against women and girls.”
