UNS: The Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC), in collaboration with the National Productivity Organization (NPO), successfully conducted a two-day capacity-building workshop, “Fostering Innovation Capabilities (ISO 56000 Innovation Management System and Standards),” at the PEC Headquarters, Islamabad.
Facilitated by renowned international experts Dr. Eva Diedrichs and Mr. Claus Diedrichs, the program introduced global best practices for establishing and operating innovation management systems aligned with the ISO 56000 family of standards. Sessions covered governance, portfolio and pipeline management, opportunity/idea workflows, metrics, and integration with digital transformation and Industry 4.0.
To broaden access, PEC subsidized the standard training fee (Rs. 20,000 per participant), enabling PEC-registered engineers to attend at no cost. Despite the short notice—necessitated by the experts’ travel window—the workshop drew strong participation from mid-career professionals across industry, academia, and the public sector, with joint PEC–NPO certificates awarded upon completion.
Chairman PEC Engr. Waseem Nazir distributed certificates among the participants. While addressing the participants, Chairman PEC said that fostering innovation culture is essential to enhance the competitiveness of Pakistan’s engineering and industrial sectors. He emphasized that PEC is committed to promoting international standards and aligning local practices with global benchmarks to strengthen engineering excellence. He further noted that such collaborations with NPO and international experts will help bridge the gap between innovation theory and practical implementation within Pakistan’s engineering ecosystem.
“This collaboration translates the ISO 56000 principles into practical, results-oriented routines for Pakistani organizations,” PEC spokesperson noted, acknowledging NPO and APO’s Technical Expert Services support for the initiative.
