UNS; A moderate earthquake struck several regions across the country today, with tremors felt in the federal capital, Islamabad, and beyond.
Residents in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Swabi, Peshawar, Mardan, and adjacent areas reported experiencing strong tremors. Seismic activity was also recorded in Gilgit and its surrounding regions.
According to data released by the National Seismological Center, the earthquake registered a magnitude of 5.6 on the Richter scale. The epicenter was located in the Hindu Kush mountain range within Afghan territory, at a depth of approximately 120 kilometers beneath the earth’s surface.
As of now, no casualties or major infrastructural damage have been reported. Relevant authorities are actively assessing the situation, and emergency response teams remain on alert. Citizens are advised to remain vigilant and adhere strictly to safety protocols issued by disaster management and civil defense authorities.
