ISLAMABAD – UNS: The Cyber Crime Circle Islamabad has approached the court to close 27 YouTube channels in the federal capital of Pakistan.According to the details the FIA subsidiary “National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency” (NCCIA) has taken the stand that these YouTube channels are spreading lies, fake news, provocative and notorious material against state institutions and officers that can give rise to fear, anxiety, and rebellion among the public.
The report submitted to the court states that these channels are sharing “extremely provocative, humiliating, and provocative material”, which is providing hatred and mistrust against state institutions, the army, and the judiciary.
According to the application , the information on these channels is not only misleading and false, but they also pose a threat to social peace and state stability.

A list of 27 YouTube channels has been linked with the application, including several leading journalists, analysts, and social media activists, whose names are as follows:
The court has been requested to issue a subpoena/warrant to the closure of these channels to YouTube’s central company “Google LLC, D/B/A YouTube, 901 Cherry Ave, San Bruuno, CA 94066, CA 94066.
The petition is signed by Sub Inspector M. Wasim Khan of the Cyber Crime Center Islamabad, who has appealed to the court that the closure of these channels is essential for state security, social harmony and the rule of law.
The issue has come to the fore when social media in the country is seeing an increase in political tensions, rumors, and hate campaigns against institutions. The move is being viewed by the government as an attempt to establish a state writ on social media, while critics can call it an attack on freedom of expression.
