Gilani calls on Deputy Secretary of State of the Holy See

ISLAMABAD -UNS: Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, Chairman Senate who is currently leading a 4-member delegation to Rome on behalf of the Prime Minister to represent Pakistan at the inauguration ceremony of His Holiness the Pope, has met with His Grace Archbishop Edgar Peña Parra, Deputy Secretary of State of the Holy See at the Vatican moments earlier.

Chairman fondly recalled his interaction with HH the Pope at the inauguration ceremony yesterday and expressed his best wishes for a very successful journey ahead. He reiterated gratitude on behalf of Pakistan for His Holiness concerns and constructive remarks over the recent conflict between India & Pakistan appreciating the call by His Holiness for promoting peace and prosperity in the region through dialogue and peaceful means.

The Deputy Secretary of State His Grace Parra most warmly recalled his 4-year tenure as Representative of the Vatican between 2011-2015 in Islamabad, reaffirming commitment to further strengthening bilateral exchanges & cooperation between the Vatican & Pakistan.

Chairman notes that Pakistan has been a victim of worst form of terrorism for decades and has been hosting 3.5mn refugees from brotherly Afghanistan since 1988. Therefore, a peaceful neighbourhood in Pakistan’s own interest foremost, which explains our seriousness towards promoting peace and prosperity through dialogue

Both side concluded the interaction by renewing their mutual desire for maintaining close contacts and working together for spreading the message of peace.
